Messolongi

Some 50 km northwest of Messolongi is the splendid summer resort of Astakos, a picturesque market town that overlooks the gulf that it was named after. Its extended un-spoilt beaches with fine white sand and the sea of every shade of blue at Agios Yorgis, Asprogiali and Vela make the area perfect for quiet, carefree holidays.

The coastal road leads to Mitikas and from there opposite to the islets of Kalamos and Kastos. Further north is Aktio with its Venetian castle, seaside Vonitsa, and Amfilohia, amphitheatrically situated on the slopes of two hills, looking towards Arta.
