Lefkada

Lefkada is the first area of Greece with a large cultural potential. Many of its inhabitants distinguish themselves in Literature, Arts and Science. Our national poets Aristotelis Valaoritis and Anghelos Sikelianos, lived and worked in Lefkada.

CELEBRATION OF PHILARMONIC (12 December, Lefkada). Concert on the day of St. Spiridon, its protecting saint.

ANNUAL CONCERT OF ORFEAS (27 December, Lefkada). Annual concert organized by ORFEUS Cultural Association.

LENTIL CELEBRATION (Aghiou Donatou, Lefkada). Taking place in Eglouvi with music and food for free (sardines, lentil and righanada: hot slices of bread with olive oil and oregano).

ANNIVERSARY OF UNIFICATION OF THE IONIAN ISLANDS (May, Lefkada). Cultural and artistic manifestations and painting exhibition from painters of the Ionian Islands, organized by the artistic group Orfeas.

MEETING OF THE PHILARMONICS (19th-21st July). Musical manifestations with the participation of bands from other parts of Greece.

VALAORITIA (20 July, Nidri) Organized by the Cultural group Odysseus.

LITERATURE AND ART MANIFESTATIONS (August, Lefkada) Organized by the Town Hall of Lefkada (concerts, lectures, theatres).

INTERNATIONAL FOLKORE FESTIVAL (August, Lefkada) Festival with traditional dances and songs from all over the world. On the first Sunday of the Festival a parade takes place in which, all the dance groups participate.

REPRESENTATION OF LEFKADIAN WEDDING
(11 August, Karia). Revival of the traditional wedding with the decorating of the bride, wedding procession, ceremony, and lastly celebrations and festivities.

CHOIR FESTIVAL OF LEFKADA (May, Lefkada) Greek choirs take part, organized by Nea Chorodia (New Choir).

CARNIVAL: Floats and dances of groups of people, in fancy dresses.
Cultural Communities of Traditional Dances, Choirs, Madolinates (groups playing the madolin) and Philarmonic (Orchestras) organize festivities throughout the year.

Religious Festivities: Feasts with folklore music, dances and food accompany religious celebrations.

EASTER: Traditional Orthodox Christian Easter. On Good Friday litany with procession of sepulchral. Resurrection is celebrated with fireworks.

ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN (15 August) - Feasts take place at Faneromeni Monastery (Lefkada), at Ligia, Sivota and Vassiliki.

AGHIOU GEORGHIOU (St. George)-. Sivota

AGHION PATERON: (1st Sunday after Ascension): Aghion Pateron Monastery at Nikiana.

AGHIOU PNEVMATOS (Holy Spirit): Religion Feast takes place at Faneromeni Monastery. Litany with the Philarmonic band music.

AGHIAS KIRIAKIS (7 July): Church of Aghia Kiriaki at Gheni.
