Near Kilkis a cave attracts many visitors with the beauty of its stalactites. The western section is mountainous. The ascent of Mt. Paiko (1.500 m. alt.) brings much to marvel at thickly wooded slopes, rushing brooks and streams and delightful little villages, such as Griva, Kastaneri and Livadia. Finally, in the northern part of the prefecture one of its jewels can be found - Lake Doirani, a natural wonderland. It is possible to swim in its waters and enjoy the idyllic hamlets built along its sandy shores. The taverns at Doirari village serve delicacies fished from the lake.
