Ikaria
The
island of Ikaria belongs to a group of islands called Eastern Aegean
Sea. It is in the middle of the Aegean Sea with Samos to its east,
Mykonos to its west, Chios to its North and the sacred island of
Patmos to its south. It's distance from Piraeus, the country's main
port is 140 sea miles.
Ikaria is oblong with a length of about 21 miles and a width that
hanges from 3 to 5 miles. It is a mountainous island. Mount Athera's
(called Pramos in ancient times) ranges from 600 to 1041 meters.
Ikaria is filled with trees and ravines that create torrents and
streams that lead into the sea forming bays and gulfs. These natural
beauties are surrounded by "golden" sand that makes them ideal for
sea baths. The island has a wonderful climate and along with the hot
springs that are internationally known, makes it the right place for
a holiday. Ikaria is an island with many beauties. The roofs of the
houses, the sea where Ikaros drowned when the sun melted his wings
of wax. Dionyssos was born In Ikaria, near Drepano. The primitive
beauty of the island, the kind people and the monuments will please
those who decide to visit Ikaria.
