TO ALONISSOS]
Alonissos
Chrissi Milia is one of the most popular beaches of the island. This
beach (Palavoudim Lakka is the original name) is the only sandy
beach on the island. The waters are not so deep, which makes it an
ideal place for children, watersports and for beginner swimmers. It
is organised with a tavern and umbrellas on the beach.
Patitiri is the main harbour of the island and the first place one
sees on arrival at Alonissos. The majority of the hotels and shops
are situated here at Patitiri. One also finds the post office, super
markets, the banks, travel agencies, the police station, health
center etc.
After the earthquake at 1965, the local people moved from the Old
village and they came here to Patitiri. The construction growth was
rapid and now Patitiri is the biggest village and the capital of the
island.
The name "Patitiri" means “winepress” in Greek, as all the
winepresses and storage areas of the wine of Alonissos where in this
area.
